Xiangtan is China's undisputed betel nut capital. A traditional snack from Xiangxiang County, these baked rice cakes are made from fermented rice flour, sugar, and a touch of osmanthus. The batter is poured into wooden molds and baked over charcoal fire until golden brown. The cakes are soft, fluffy, and delicately sweet with a hint of floral fragrance from the osmanthus.
