Suqian Travel Guide

The hometown of Xiang Yu, a historic city on the shores of Hongze Lake, famous for its wetlands and Yanghe baijiu.

About

Suqian, located in northern Jiangsu Province, is a city steeped in Chinese history as the birthplace of Xiang Yu (232-202 BC), the "Hegemon-King of Western Chu" whose dramatic rivalry with Liu Bang defined the Chu-Han Contention. The city proudly preserves this warrior heritage at the Xiang Yu's Hometown complex.

Beyond its historical significance, Suqian boasts remarkable natural wealth. Hongze Lake, the fourth largest freshwater lake in China, borders the city and supports vast wetlands teeming with birdlife. Santai Mountain Forest Park offers diverse landscapes of forests, flower fields, and mirror-like lakes.

Suqian is also the home of Yanghe, one of China's most famous baijiu distilleries, with a history dating back to the Ming Dynasty. The local economy has grown significantly in recent years, driven by the liquor industry, food processing, and renewable energy sectors.

The city's cuisine is hearty and lake-influenced, with freshwater fish, crayfish, and wild aquatic plants featuring prominently on local tables.
